J.B. Lenoir

February 24th, 2010

Now here is one classic blues player. Born in 1929, died in 1967 J.B Lenoir was very active in the chicago scene back in the 50s and 60s. It was his father who got him interested in guitar after playing him some blind lemon jefferson music. He worked growing up with artists like sonny boy williamson II and elmore james yet over time he developed his style from people like lightnin hopkins and arthur crudup.

When he died in 1967 he was only 38 and it was from a heart attack which was brought on by an injury he got through an accident in a car a couple of weeks previous

Even after he was dead players showed respect with John mayall writing " Im gonna fight for you J.B " and " Death of J.B Lenoir "

He was featured in a martin scorsese's film called " The Blues " which cover the careers of J.B , Skip james and Bline Willie Johnson.

Tonebug Distortion by T-Rex

February 10th, 2010

Back in the 1960s a lot of experimenting was going on with distortion and well it really changed music both in rock and the blues arena. There were numerous methods used by bands such as slitting the front of their amps to get that classic fuzz sound until people realized how to overdrive their main amp with a hot signal from a preamp

What tonebug has done is it has gathered together that classic rock sound and using a gain knob it lets you choose how dirty youw ant the sound to be from heavy distortion through to a muted blues crunch.

Now T-Rex has come out with this im sure its going to be pretty darn popular. Let me know if you have had the chance to play with one. Until then check out the video below to hear it.. sweet stuff

Seems Yamaha has come out with a new model of Jumbo acoustic guitar called the FJ Jumbo. Originally in 1960 they came out with the FG acoustic, now they have

FJX730SC - rosewood back and sides
FJX720SC - mahogany back and sides
Both have Piezo  based system 55T pickups

All of which were highlighted at summer namm 2009

This is what they had to say " "Our customers have been asking for a jumbo body offering for a long time," said Dennis Webster, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. "Not only have we designed a great jumbo shape, but we've also added the A.R.T. system so that they will sound great out of the gate. Acoustic-electric gigging guitarists have something really great to sing about."
